what to consider when choosing a mattress topper for pain relief
-
Your sleeping position
The way your body interacts with a mattress topper greatly depends on your sleep style. Side sleepers usually find comfort in softer toppers, allowing for less pressure being applied to the hips. Back and stomach sleepers typically sleep more comfortably on firmer toppers. For back sleepers, we recommend thicker toppers (3 - 4 inches) that deliver extra support. For stomach sleepers, we recommend thinner toppers (2 - 3 inches) to prevent the hips from sinking which can lead to lower back pain.
-
the firmness of your current mattress
Keep in mind that a mattress topper should compliment your existing mattress. If your current mattress is too soft or it has that “sinking” feeling in the middle, you don’t want to pair it with another soft topper. If you feel your current mattress is too firm, you don’t want to pair it with a super firm topper, or it might make your bed feel even firmer. When in doubt, a medium-firm topper is a great solution to make your bed more comfortable while helping alleviate any aches and pains.
